Positive: - Great location: the hotel is very well positioned in Koundouros, with its own private beach just across the road. The beach also has a very nice restaurant focusing on fire-based cooking, which was one of the highlights of the stay. - Excellent staff: the team were consistently pleasant, helpful and resourceful. Many of the same staff support both breakfast and the beach club, and the service felt friendly and attentive throughout. - Great massage therapist; there is an excellent massage therapist (Lavros) with his own studio right next to the beach, which I would definitely recommend. - Comfortable rooms; the rooms are spacious and comfortable, with air conditioning, which was particularly appreciated given the temperatures don't drop much at night.
Negative: - Breakfast ordering: breakfast needs to be selected on a paper form the day before, based mainly on ingredient lists. A simple QR code linking to photos of the dishes would make the process much easier, especially for international guests who may not be familiar with some of the options, and reduce food waste. - Lack of local products: the breakfast could do much more to showcase Greek and local produce. For example, the cheese platter included Grana Padano and Gouda, which were tasty, but I would have preferred local cheeses such as graviera, talagani, kefalotiri or feta. The same applies to the honey, particularly as the island is known for its thyme honey, and olives. - Bread and pastries; the hotel should consider revisiting the bakery it uses. Several of the bread products I tried throughout the stay, including the bread served with the kayana, the koulouri and the bread basket, were unfortunately quite stale in different days. Fresher bread would make a significant upgrade to the breakfast. - Limited nearby options; Koundouros is a relatively quiet area, so there is not much happening within the immediate surroundings of the hotel, particularly when it comes to alternative dinner options. You should preferably rent a car to get around the island for dinner at other parts or pay up for transportation with taxis. The Koundouros bus stop is also about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, with infrequent connections at a handful of times in the day to other parts of the island, including Ioulida and Vourkari. The hotel provides the official bus timetable; however, it is in Greek -- a quick win for the hotel next summer would be to convert the greek timetable to an English version using AI!
