Our home is not a party place, it’s design for no more than six registered guests (up to 8 with owners’ pre-approval). With tranquil beauty comes compromise. We are in a small, quaint farming/ranching community, carved out of what was once tropic rain forest. There are bugs, a rare snake, poisonous (to dogs) frogs. As with any small Costa Rican community, there are occasional power outages and, not being equipped with a polluting gasoline generator, you could find yourself reading or dining by candlelight (without internet service) for a period of time. Nestled in the coffee producing hills, we are not on the beach, the rim of a volcano, walking distance to high-end shopping. We are an eight-minute drive into town for groceries and local restaurants. We are about 15-minute drive to the main highway. Our ecologically friend home was specifically designed not to need centralized heating or air conditioning. We rely on cross ventilation and large ceiling fans for cooling – more environmentally friendly than a/c units (but not as cold). Finally, our large and relaxing pool is not well suited for young children. We collect cultural and religious objects from throughout the world and some are displayed in our home. This is another reason why our home isn’t the most suited for young children or parties.
