Only a 45 minute drive (or direct train ride) north of the Sydney CBD, the pet and family friendly (original) Ferry Master’s Cottage has been lovingly restored and is located centrally on the level area of the island.
We are a great option for those that want some time away from the mainland madness of COVID-19! For peace of mind, we also take special care to deep clean the property between guest stays.
The cottage has 3 double bedrooms with queen beds, 1 bunk room and 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom has its own ensuite.
A full-size main bathroom (with bath), kitchen with full amenities, open dining and lounge room.
All linen and bath towels are provided
A fully equipped laundry, Wi-Fi and Smart TV available.
For little ones - a high-chair and porta cot are available.
Enjoy alfresco dining, easy chairs & fire pit on the decks and gardens.
The space
The cottage has a large front deck (perfect for cocktail hour!) and a private back patio area with BBQ and dining table. Inside there are polished timber floors and carpeted bedrooms. Plenty of natural light through all rooms with lovely green outlooks.
A modern kitchen with European appliances, all amenities you need and an island bench for casual eating. To relax, there is also a comfortable lounge area.
There is an additional sitting area out the back of the house with a natural stone garden, easy chairs and fire pit - perfect for a glass of red and a warm fire.
The bathrooms are recently renovated with bath, large shower roses, quality towels, and heating. The bedrooms are all large with new queen beds, quality linen and (where needed) heaters.
Overall, the cottage is perfectly located less than a 4-minute walk from the ferry and café and 3-minutes walk to Bradley’s Beach, the island green, children’s playground and (lawn) bowling club.
With the exception of a locked cleaner's cupboard in the bunk room and an owner's cupboard in the kitchen, the entire house is available.
Pets
While we are a pet-friendly location, we do ask that pets not be allowed on the beds or furniture.
Chooks!
In addition, there are friendly chickens that may wander between properties. Could we please request you manage your pets so they don't harass the chickens - after all, they were there first!
Getting to Brooklyn
Drive up the M1 from Sydney and take the Brooklyn exit (approx drive is 45 minutes from the CBD). There is plenty of safe, untimed parking in Brooklyn and around the corner at Parsley Bay
Take the train from the city and hop off at Hawkesbury River station (Brooklyn) - approx. 45 mins
Access to the island
Once in Brooklyn, take the Dangar Island Ferry or use the reasonably priced water taxi service.
Ferry
The Ferry takes 10 minutes to the island. Please note it only takes cash and if you have a dog, you will require a soft muzzle.
Water taxi
The water taxi cost is not a great deal more than the ferry (depending on numbers) and is a better option if you have a lot of gear.
It only takes 4 minutes to the island, has EFTPOS and if you have a dog, don't need a muzzle.
Guest access to the house
We have a co-host that lives on the island and is available to help our guests.
Once you arrive
At the Dangar Island public wharf and opposite the cafe, you'll find our wheelbarrow to help bring your luggage to the house. Look out for a black 'Sherlock' brand barrow with FMC on the front and '5 Baroona Street' painted on the sides.
We are only a 4-minute walk, so head up the little hill, take the second left and then the first left on to Baroona Street and in 50m you'll find the house - also on the left.
If you have a lot of luggage, you can book a golf buggy.
Please return the wheelbarrow when you leave.
Key safe
We will provide you with the code for the key safe which is located next to the front door. Please return the key to the safe when you leave.
Internet and mobile coverage
We do have NBN Wi-Fi access, however, both the internet and mobile coverage can be intermittent.
