Beautiful, spacious 1870s house in centre of town. | House in Glen Innes

1 Bedroom House in Glen Innes
Flemish Bond is new to the Airbnb market. It is a beautiful, historic home, built in 1870 with a large, beautiful, contemporary extension at the rear. Located centrally with minute walks to the cafes, pubs, parks & main street, this house is in the best location.
Set on 1/2 acre with beautiful established gardens, verandas & outdoor spaces, it's perfectly positioned to cater for a family or a group. The large extension lends itself to togetherness, games and relaxing.
The Space:
The house is in a brilliant location: very short walks to the main street, food, bars, pubs, shopping and a mere 68 steps to the local cinema, located in an old chapel. Whilst it fronts on to the main road, the double thickness of the brick insulates the house from most street noise. There is a pedestrian entrance at the front and the other entrance and driveway, for vehicles, is off a lane at the back of the property. Expansive indoor and outdoor areas, gardens and gathering places makes the property very quiet and private, but the bonus of being within an arm's reach to the main precinct of Glen Innes.
There are 3 bedrooms available to accommodate 6 people in a Queen room, a Double room and a Single room with two single beds. All bedrooms have split system air-conditioners and all beds have electric blankets. Unfortunately the pretty fireplaces are not usable. There are also 2 lounges, that can accommodate people, but they attract an extra charge for linen etc.
The large open plan kitchen & living area has a vaulted ceiling, open fireplace, polished concrete floors, 4 lounges, a dining table that caters for 8 people, a very large kitchen decked out with copious amounts of crockery, glasses, cookware and serving platters. The very large island bench has numerous drawers, holding everything you’ll need and has 5 stools on the other side - perfect for preparing food while chatting. This area opens up to the outside BBQ and paved area with huge double bifold doors. Dining out there for 8 people as well as a fire pit.
The house only has one bathroom at present, but it is large and has a double vanity and also double shower heads, allowing for a quick turnover of householders. Importantly, there is a second toilet in the laundry outside, still connected to the house.
The grounds are beautiful. Set on ½ acre with hedges, lawn, Boston Ivy, an enormous Plane tree in the front yard and smaller versions lining the driveway.
At the back of the property a long way from the house are two sheds that are also being renovated. One serves us for accommodation when we are in town while working on the renovations. We keep to ourselves & respect your privacy, but are also happy to say hi if you like. We follow your lead.
We get all the seasons here in Glen Innes and it’s the perfect place to visit several times to experience a different season each time: the stunning new growth and flowers of Spring; the beautiful long days of the verdant New England Summer; Autumn with the glorious colours of changing leaves and the frosty, freezing Winters, characterised by bare trees and gardens. You’ll get to experience a 'real winter’: frosts, minus temperatures, scarves, gloves, beanies, big, warm coats and sitting in front of fires. The pubs in town have fireplaces roaring throughout winter. Flemish Bond also has a large working fireplace in the lounge/dining area.
The town itself is so pretty! We have beautiful parks, beautiful historic buildings and is a really great place to wander and sightsee.
Guest access
Set on 1/2 acre there's oodles of parking. You have access to the whole house and grounds.
Leave the car and wander down to a bar, a pub, a cafe or the main street. It will only take to a couple of minutes. However, you will need the car if you want to go and explore more than the town centre. There are some beautiful drives around this area.
Other things to note
The house is picture perfect! It is the best blend of an historic home and a modern extension. The extension is a very large room, with a vaulted ceiling, stunning windows and bifold doors opening up to an extensive outdoor area. The bedrooms are contained in the original home, which was built in 1870.
Where did the Name come from?
Flemish Bond is a type of brickwork pattern, a pattern that distinguishes it from other bricklaying models. A full brick is laid and then the end of the next brick is laid and this repeating pattern then continues. While its sound like a name from the Netherlands, it isn’t. It’s English and describes a decorative way of laying brick. The exterior brickwork and the interior brick wall in the living area is all Flemish Bond.
The house was built using bricks from Glen Innes, which are the characteristic brown brick with blue flecks. Only a couple of houses in town have this brick while also using Flemish Bond. Because it’s so unique to this town, we used the name to pay homage to the style.
