The roundhouses are literally just that! Round buildings, made with natural materials including strawbale, timbers, and lime render to ensure they are truly environmentally sustainable. Small fully equipped homes, they are cool in summer, warm in winter, and have stunning views down the valley towards Cygnet.
The roundhouses are truly environmentally sustainable (not just the odd LED lightbulb or two!), using local and natural materials, local timbers, local artisans, and minimal plastics. They have under-slab insulation, thick straw walls, double glazed windows, and the round shape all adds to the eco-design. Architecturally designed, the roundhouses achieved an exceptional energy rating, and just to make your mornings a little bit nicer, both houses have underfloor heating, so no cold feet in the mornings. You can sit in bed, operate the remote controlled electric blinds and watch the morning sunrise. In the evenings, unwind with a glass of wine in front of the cute little log burner for toasty warm winters.
Each roundhouse has high quality wooden furniture including King sized beds and luxury soft furnishings from Liberty of London, Studio G, and Canningvale. On site is a wood fired hot-tub which you can book as a spa experience. We provide a pre-heated hot tub, bath robes, towels, and a herbal and salt bath teabag. We also sell local wines and cider as well as cheese/cider platters.
For discerning families looking for an environmentally friendly quality holiday, our family roundhouse has a massive king sized European oak bed for parents and a small bunk room for kids. There is a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, espresso machine, outdoor BBQ and dining area with roll down weather blinds. The covered deck offers uninterrupted valley views, with wedge tailed eagles riding the afternoon winds. A recreation area with fire pit and wooden outdoor games is next to the Bear roundhouse.
There are alpacas, and angora goats as well as rare breed ducks on the farm which children can feed (under supervision). The roundhouse is extremely energy efficient and we have done all the hard work on environmental choices so you can relax and enjoy your holiday. There is also underfloor heating and a log burner is available when needed.
We are a short 6 minute drive from Cygnet with its bars, restaurants and shops, 20 minutes from Huonville and around 50 minutes from Hobart. The Huon Valley has lots of wineries and cideries to visit and is famous for its paddock to plate culture.
