Experience some of the best views in Australia at the Yurt Alpine retreat which is situated in the Victorian high country on a 345 hectare working farm surrounded by natural bushland perched on top of a mountain in one of Victoria’s best wine producing regions in Myrrhee which is part of the King Valley. Because of its remote location absolute privacy is assured for guests. No neighbours to be seen, run around in the nude if the notion takes you.
After driving along a steep dirt track through natural bushland teeming with kangaroos, wombats, rabbits and deer, you will burst onto a plateau with amazing views of the King Valley and Myrrhee valley. There are fantastic scenic walks along a scenic ridge or you might like to explore the natural bushland adjoining the property.
In the morning you will hear the sounds of many birds including beautiful King Parrotts, black cockatoos and you might see the resident eagle hovering overhead or even a white deer if you are really lucky, but watch out for the mythical black panther reportedly spotted by neighbours.
In the evening you can enjoy the sounds of silence while sampling some of the valleys’ best wines, there is good mobile phone coverage at the yurt but limited access in other parts of the property, but why not switch it off altogether and just enjoy the golden silence. Then you can sit by the campfire until its time for bed, the stars are unbelievable up here, you will be able to see them through the glass dome of the yurt. There is a double set of doors, one set is glass the other wood, so you can leave the timber doors open and look out through the glass doors.
The yurt is situated within 20minutes drive of restaurants and wineries.
Yurt accommodation is beautiful, unique and cosy in winter and cool in summer due to the 5cm thick lambswool felt lining. It is 6m in diameter. Accommodates two people comfortably.
There is a gas BBQ and a small portable gas stove and a small cast iron stove in the yurt which keeps it beautifully warm in winter and is great for cooking on in cooler weather. There is a large battery operated fan for the hotter weather. You will have most things you need for a glamping experience including linen, cutlery crockery and cooking utensils. There is a rustic open front gas hot water shower with fantastic views of the mountains and a flushing toilet. There is plenty of space for outdoor parking. Public transport where the yurt is situated is non existent. You can explore the region yourselves, there are many tourist attractions in the area including Paradise Falls, Powers Lookout, Lake William Hovell, the Ned Kelly Trail around Glenrowan and lots more, or just kick back with an icy cold stubby and a rubber tyre and float down the river, the yurt has brochures on other activities in the region i.e. bike riding, horse riding, skiing, canoeing etc.
The nearest shopping centre is 40kms away so you will need to stock up on food in either Benalla or Wangaratta, although there is a general store and a pub 15 mins. Away. There is a large solar powered car fridge inside the yurt.
The yurt is beautifully decorated in trawanting five star accommodation, but for those wanting a unique bush glamping experience this is the ideal holiday for you.
